More than one hundred pediatricians, researchers, policy experts, and other stakeholders from around the Washington, DC, region, gathered on Thursday, May 20, 2010 at Children’s National Medical Center to discuss the importance of community-wide involvement in any program designed to combat childhood obesity.

Policymakers have been called upon by obesity experts as well as the surgeon general to include obesity as the largest, most urgent driving force behind health care reform. Both the 16th and 17th US Surgeons General have supported the movement to take action against obesity (and the resulting chronic illnesses and diseases) by making it a key element in healthcare reform.
